The American home
Putting comfort and flexibility first
Putting comfort and flexibility first
Although Americans may not see their homes as something they will pass on from generation to generation, they do expect them to be spacious and comfortable, and above all, flexible.
Attractive homes at low cost
With an average surface area of 226 m² as opposed to 110 m² in France, American homes are more imposing. Their extensive picture windows, many French windows, painted woodwork and varied architectural styles make them highly appealing. And yet, they are affordable homes – costing an average of $312,000 for a new home.
Easier home improvements
American homes are not built to fulfill the same cultural needs as those in Europe. What counts most is flexibility, rather than durability. Since they change occupants more frequently (over two thirds of owners move house every 6 – 10 years), homes are regularly “improved”.
