Optimising air and water treatment

Saint-Gobain is designing new materials in cast iron and quartz, as well as groundbreaking new systems.

Cast iron, the base material used for Pipe Division products, is durable, easy to lay and maintain. From an environmental point of view, new centrifuge techniques have made it possible to reduce standard pipe weight by 20 to 30%, depending on range, over a period of 15 years, thereby reducing CO2 emissions and energy consumption during manufacture.
Furthermore, the Group is applying all its expertise to the treatment of drinking water, swimming pool water and wastewater. For example, it supplies a number of key components for ultraviolet water treatment devices.
On another front, in the field of air purification, the High-Performance Materials Sector has developed a photocatalytic air purification filter capable of destroying organic elements such as odours, smoke, viruses, bacteria, etc.
