Promoting renewable energies
Through several of our product lines and R&D projects, we are promoting alternatives to fossil fuels and, in particular, helping to drive rapid growth in renewable energy.
Solar power, the energy of the futur
Convinced that solar power is the energy of the future, Saint-Gobain is deploying across the entire solar value chain. The Saint-Gobain Solar strategy hinges on three independent activities:
- the manufacturing and sale of high-performance mirrors designed for solar thermal plant operators and high-tech components for PV modules (special glass, high-performance plastics...).
- the production, through its Avancis company, of thin-film PV modules based on CIGS technology (Copper, Indium, Gallium, Selenide), designed for distributors, system integrators and power plant operators.
- the design and marketing, through Saint-Gobain Solar Systems, of PV solutions for residential homes, office buildings, industrial and farm installations.
Saint-Gobain is a major supplier of solutions for the photovoltaic industry. These include quartz crucibles for smelting silicon slabs,engineered abrasive grains for cutting them and fluoropolymer films for encapsulating photovoltaic panels.
Building Distribution in the renewable energies market
Saint-Gobain Building Distribution's banners distribute products, solutions and services for the renewable energies market. Examples include:
- Greenworks in the UK, with its training center and product guide.
- Brødrene Dahl, which has opened its "Klimacenter" in Denmark.
- Cedeo in France, which is developing "new energy" centers in its outlets.
