The High-Performance Materials Sector comprises the Refractory Ceramics, Plastics and Abrasives businesses. The Sector developed out the Norton group, which was acquired by Saint-Gobain in 1990. The HPM Sector was extended to the Reinforcements Activity on May 1st, 2004. Specialized in reinforcements materials, the activity includes Saint-Gobain Vetrotex and Saint-Gobain Technical Fabrics.

The Reinforcement and Composite activities (Saint-Gobain Vetrotex) were sold to the Owens Corning Group in November 2007, with the exception of the US activities, which will be licensed separately.
