A dozen or so recently graduated researchers are currently writing their doctoral theses in several of our research centers in France. Since the creation of the CIFRE, conventions, in 1981, Saint-Gobain has become the leading industrial partner for 130 PhD students (30 women, 100 men) who have been given research work in direct liaison with an external public laboratory.
CIFRE conventions are a particularly effective way of associating public research laboratories with the goals of industrial researchers in areas involving major technical or scientific innovations. CIFRE conventions are an ideal compromise for recently graduated engineers who want to work on a real research topic that leads to an industrial application.

Saint-Gobain keeps strong links to almost 200 universities and research institutions worldwide, mainly in Europe, North America and Japan†: the top French Engineering (equivalent to Ivy League universities) and Chemistry Schools, the MIT in the USA, the Japan Fine Ceramics Center, just to name a few.
The Cifre thesis candidates come typically from the following schools: ECL, ECP, EMP, ENISE, ENS, ENCCF, ENSCI, ENSCMU, ENSCP, ENSCR, ENSEEG, ENSEM, ENSIC, ENSIEG, ESIP, ESPCI, INSA, ISIM...

INTERNSHIPS AND VIE
(National Service in the corporate sector, formerly CSN)
Saint-Gobain's research centers and development units offer excellent possibilities for internships during and at the end of course work. This win-win constellation allows students an interesting closer look inside industry and offers companies to get a first impression of potential hirees.
Contact our research centers directly to find out more about available training courses.
A particular French arrangement provides recently graduated French nationals to spend a couple of months (formerly their military service time) in foreign-based French companies while performing scientific or technological activities, very much like a 16-month internship.
Contact ACTIM for further information on VIE conditions.
