SPECIALTY CERAMIC GRAINS DIVISION

The Industrial Ceramics Branch has just acquired a major shareholding in the Japanese company Japan Abrasives Co. Ltd, which manufactures and sells mainly white fused alumina and fused zirconia based materials used for refractory and abrasive products.
Japan Abrasives Co. (JACO), which was created in 1937, is located in Sakai city, close to Osaka. The company has 110 employees and represents USD 27 M in sales, of ceramic grains for abrasives and refractory markets where it has achieved a good reputation.
This acquisition represents a new step in the strategy of the Specialty Ceramic Grains Division in Asia. After the creation of the joint-venture company in Deng Feng (China) last December, it reinforces the Division's desire to strengthen its position in the Asian market by means of manufacturing presence in Japan.
