ACQUISITION OF QUARTZ INTERNATIONAL

Saint-Gobain Industrial Ceramics, Inc has acquired Quartz International, a subsidiary of Toshiba Ceramics America, Inc., a company specialized in the manufacturing of Quartz fabricated parts for the semiconductor industry. Quartz International is number three in the United States in this field. The companys headquarters are located in Milpitas, California, near San Jose. Quartz International will be part of Saint-Gobain Industrial Ceramics Quartz Division.
With this acquisition, the Saint-Gobain Industrial Ceramics Group, already a leading supplier of a complete range of high performance ceramic solutions for the semiconductor industry, further enhances its capability to serve its customers. The Quartz Division will now benefit from a significant local manufacturing base to serve the United States market.
Quartz International has 200 employees among its plants in California, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and its European plant in Ireland, and forecasts a turnover of $ 25 M in 1999.
