The Public Offer announced by the Saint-Gobain Group on February 1st, 2000 and opened on February 11th on the British building materials distribution Company Meyer International PLC ("Meyer") has been approved by the European Commission on March 23rd, 2000. All the conditions of the offer have been satisfied: the offer is now unconditional. As of March 23rd, acceptances have been received for shares representing 77% of the capital of Meyer.
Due to the strengthening of the Group activities in the United Kingdom, it has been decided to create a specific General Delegation to the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
Pierre-André de Chalendar is appointed:
Division Executive Vice president for the Building Distribution Division, United Kingdom and United States.
General Delegate of Compagnie de Saint-Gobain to United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.
Gianpaolo Caccini, Senior Vice-President, will be President of the Abrasives Division.
Benoît Carpentier is appointed Managing Director of Glaceries de Saint-Roch (Belgium). He continue to carry out his responsibilities as General Delegate to Benelux and to represent Saint-Gobain to the European Commission.
