SAINT-GOBAIN ENTERS SPANISH BUILDING MATERIALS DISTRIBUTION MARKET

The Building Distribution Division of Saint-Gobain today announces the acquisition by Point P of the assets and business of the Spanish company, Mercader. This building materials distributor generates annual sales of nearly 50 M euros and has 200 employees in its 18 outlets, all located in Catalonia. Mercader is the largest building materials distributor on the non-structured Spanish market, providing an excellent route into this market for Saint-Gobain Building Distribution.

The Building Distribution Division is already the market leader in France with Point P and Lapeyre, as well as in the United Kingdom and in Germany, following the purchase of Meyer and Raab Karcher in Spring 2000. The Division is number 1 in Building Distribution in Europe, with annual sales of 9,7 Md euros.
