APPOINTMENT

Effective April 1, 2004, Jean-Claude Breffort has been appointed Senior Vice-President of Compagnie de Saint-Gobain, in charge of Human Resources and International Development. From that date, the Group's General Delegates will report to him.
Jean-Claude Breffort will report to Christian Streiff, Chief Operating Officer of Compagnie de Saint-Gobain.

Aged 55, Jean-Claude Breffort is a graduate of the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Montpellier. He began his career with the Saint-Gobain Group in 1971, as Head of Export Sales for the Tableware business (Containers Division). In 1976, he was appointed Financial Controller of Compagnie de Saint-Gobain, then Finance Director of the German subsidiary of the Insulation Division in 1981. In 1983, he became Director of Industrial Policy of the Insulation Division, before being named General Delegate to Scandinavia in 1986. Since 1993, he has been the Group's General Delegate to Brazil and Argentina.

Jean-Claude Breffort has 33 years' industrial experience within the Saint-Gobain Group, including 20 years in the international arena, in Germany, Scandinavia and Brazil. Before being appointed General Delegate, he worked in three different areas (sales, manufacturing, and management accounting), for four different businesses (Containers, Flat Glass, Insulation and Building Materials). His appointment as Senior Vice-President in charge of Human Resources and International Development underscores the importance of Human Resources within the internationalization of the Saint-Gobain Group. The Group's General Delegates will report to him in his new role.
As General Delegate to Brazil and Argentina, Jean-Claude Breffort has contributed to Saint-Gobain's success in South America. In the space of 12 years, Saint-Gobain's sales in Brazil have doubled, and earnings figures have been among the best in the Group. He has also helped to foster talent – some ten Brazilian managers currently head up Saint-Gobain operations around the globe.
