Saint-Gobain in the Primitives Arts Museum
The Quai Branly Museum in Paris opens its doors to the public on June 23rd 2006. Designed by Jean Nouvel, it will be exhibiting diverse works of Primitives Arts. Some 3500 pieces will be shown throughout its 3900m² surface area.
Various materials from Saint-Gobain have been used in the construction of this building. Saint-Gobain Glass has supplied 2600m² of laminated SGG STADIP glass in 180 panels of 6 metres by 2.40 metres each, providing valuable sound protection. This entirely transparent glass palisade stretches 200 metres along the curve of the Seine and stands 12 metres high. This glass frontage also displays information on the museum.
SGG CLIMAPLUS double-glazed units from Saint-Gobain Glass have been widely used: 1400m² for the glass roof and a wall covered in a decorative film with a tropical forest motif; 2200m² of the curve of the façade going from opaque to transparent in a graduation effect; 2600m² for the dome of the restaurant; and an additional 2500m² on other frontages, with SGG STADIP laminated glass protection barriers.
In terms of insulation, Saint-Gobain Isover has supplied a variety of innovative materials, such as 3000m² of ROOFMATE SL-X for the roof terraces, 18 000m² of CLIMAVER 224 for the ventilation shafts, PANOLENE FACADIER for the frontages, IBR for the ceilings and PAR CONFORT for the walls. Saint-Gobain Eurocoustic also provided 10 000m² of PROTISOL used on the underside of the ceiling to enhance sound and visual effects.
SGG CLIMAPLUS: is a range of double-glazed units with enhanced thermal insulation properties. The product has several advantages: energy savings on heating systems and low risk of condensation on the inside pane.
SGG STADIP: is a range of laminated safety glass, effective against vandalism, break-ins and even firearms.
ROOFMATE SL-X: is a rigid panel of extruded polystyrene foam. It has strong mechanical resistance, high heat insulating properties and is impervious to water.
CLIMAVER 224: is a glass wool felt, impregnated with a thermosetting resin. Light and easy to handle, it provides good thermal insulation.
PANOLENE FAÇADIER: is a semi-rigid panel of black glass wool with a high mass volume. It is very effective in acoustic and thermal insulation, and performs well against fire.
IBR: is a fire resistant glass wool felt with good acoustic and thermal insulation properties.
PAR COBFORT: is a rolled panel of glass wool covered with a strengthened glass veil on one side. It has excellent soundproofing qualities and is fire resistant.
PROTISOL: is a stonewool acoustic panel with a veil of black glass. Its sound absorption capacity helps control reverberation and noise levels.
