Learning week: one week to talk about the learning enterprise

In June 2017, Saint-Gobain held a “Learning Week” for the second year in a row with as its main theme, “I LEARN, I SHARE, WE LEARN.” A series of events and initiatives encouraged employees to work together and share. More generally, this dynamic and fun event was designed to develop a learning culture so that the teams keep abreast of the latest market trends to become real innovation drivers.

FIVE DAYS TO KEEP ONE STEP AHEAD
To be innovative externally, you have to be innovative internally. Saint-Gobain aims to anticipate its employees’ needs with regard to the format and type of training they need. It is also why Saint-Gobain now holds its exceptional “Learning Week” event each year worldwide. Over the course of the week, each employee has the right – and the duty – to train in a subject of his or her choice.

SAINT-GOBAIN FROM ALL ANGLES. AND ON ALL NETWORKS.

In 2017, each “Learning Week” day was devoted to promoting one of Saint-Gobain’s five Attitudes, which define employees’ expertise: “Cultivate customer intimacy,” “Act as an entrepreneur,” “Innovate,” “Be agile” and “Build an open and engaging culture.” More than 30 webcasts were hosted live. The subjects addressed ranged from big data to research and development at Saint-Gobain, as well as trust management and using Twitter and LinkedIn for learning. In all, more than 3,000 employees watched these presentations on their PC, tablet, or even their smartphone.

Many Saint-Gobain sites also organized activities, such as virtual reality workshops, courses in video production on a smartphone, and even site tours.

VIRAL OR VIRTUAL, A REAL SUCCESS

A video challenge based on the model of the “Ice Bucket Challenge” was taken up by some 30 employees. The aim was for each to create a video explaining a subject in which he or she has particular expertise and/or interest and to name three other colleagues to do likewise. The videos were published on the Saint-Gobain corporate social network and on external social networks.

IN 2018, TRAINING CONTINUES

Preparation for the 2018 Learning Week is already underway, with the added innovation of a mobile app to make it easier to register for all the events, either on-site or remotely. This is an opportunity to involve a maximum number of employees in order to encourage innovation and a learning culture at Saint-Gobain.
