In 2017, Saint-Gobain completed more than 30 acquisitions. In Europe, these include: the insulation specialists Glava in Norway and Isoroc in Poland, roofing reinforcement products specialists Wattex in Belgium and Kirson in Germany, Norway’s leading regional general merchant distribution company Per Strand, the Greek specialist for waterproofing solutions Maris Polymers, the leading Scottish company for prefabricated kit homes Scotframe, and the German manufacturer of specialty adhesive tapes Biolink. In South America, the following were acquired: in Brazil, TekBond, an adhesives company and the regional building materials sales outlet network Tumelero Materiais de Construção, and in Argentina, the leading waterproofing application company Megaflex. This external growth development strategy revolves around three areas: new geographical regions, proximity to our customers and technological niches that are sources of innovation!
The Group also boosted its operational network worldwide. In Saltillo (Mexico), we laid the foundation stone for a float line that will manufacture flat glass for the NAFTA construction and automotive markets. We increased our production capacity by 30 percent at one of our glass fiber production sites in the Czech Republic. We also fully renovated and upgraded the Aniche-Emerchicourt float (France), which will now produce glass for the construction and automotive markets backed by an improved technical and environmental performance. Finally, we launched the construction of a second plasterboard plant in Haiphong (Vietnam), and a third mortar plant in Sumatra (Indonesia). Additionally, we invested heavily in logistics developments, such as the future Dahl Sverige AB logistics center (Sweden), for which construction is scheduled to begin at the end of 2018. Each of these projects helps reinforce Saint-Gobain’s foundations for its future and that of its customers.
