Saint-Gobain PAM has been awarded a major contract in the Balkans to replace the entire drinking water and wastewater infrastructure in northwest Bulgaria.

Unprecedented project for PAM in the Balkans

This vast project in Vrasta, Bulgaria, aims to reduce water loss by 80% by installing new pipes. Saint-Gobain PAM will be replacing the existing water and wastewater pipes.

Almost 30 km of ductile iron ZMU pipes (dia. 800 mm and 1000 mm) are currently being laid. This new ZMU cement mortar coating was chosen specifically for its ability to adapt to the uneven terrain in this mountainous region. To reduce the carbon footprint, the pipes and fittings have been mainly transported by waterway. The synergy between the six European plants (Pont-à-Mousson, Toul, Foug, Brebach, Ilkeson and Blénod) and the PAM teams’ expertise means that this project should be completed by the end of 2020.
