Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics’ Bristol facility (UK) is equipped with the latest leading edge hemi-anechoic chamber to support its customers on the automotive market developing noise-reduction solutions in the car.

A hemi-anechoic (or anti echo) room is dedicated to measuring sound. It isolates any exterior noise perfectly. This installation is unique for a supplier of automotive components. It provides an improved way of testing the performance of the customers system and then identify how NORGLIDE® Bearings or RENCOL® Tolerance Rings can be applied to reduce noise and vibration.

With the development of the electric car, carmakers have shifted their focus from engines which have become more quieter to take an interest in other sources of noise. The bearings and tolerance rings, that can be found in seats, doors and steering controls, have a significant impact on noise reduction in cars.

Simon Hughes, Senior NVH Specialist*, explains: “Noise has become a factor of comfort and quality in cars and transport in general. The necessity to reduce noise is a major concern for carmakers. This leading edge installation differentiates us and helps us support our customers in their search for solutions capable of enhancing acoustic comfort in the car.”
