Chryso launches EnviroMix®C-Clay, a new range of admixtures aimed at reducing the concrete carbon footprint
This product addresses the technical challenges posed by these new cements, particularly their water requirements.
Innovation after innovation, Chryso continues to decarbonize the construction industry. A few months ago, the brand from the Construction Chemicals BU launched EnviroAdd®, a next-generation activator for cement manufacturers, aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of cement by up to 11%.
Now, Chryso has introduced a new range of additives for concrete producers, specifically designed for the use of cements containing calcined clays—EnviroMix®C-Clay. This specialized additive range was created to enhance the performance of concrete and adapt to the versatility of calcined clay-based cements. These innovations are the subject of patent filings.
By incorporating these admixtures, calcined clay cements unleash their full environmental potential, reducing CO₂ emissions by up to 50% compared to traditional Portland cement, a widely used hydraulic binder containing at least 50% clinker. EnviroMix®C-Clay thus represents a promising solution for promoting more sustainable constructions..
Over thirty different clays analyzed
At Chryso’s research center in Sermaises, France, the R&D team spent several years characterizing over 30 different calcined clays from around the world. They used internal and patented methodologies, such as the Chryso®Clear Test, to determine the optimal formulation of EnviroMix®C-Clay for each concrete mix design. Initially, the Chryso®Clear Test was developed as a tool to measure the amount of clay in sands, particularly suited for the use of Quad® additives. The Chryso®Clear Test Reveal is particularly effective in enabling the R&D teams to assess the specific needs of additives to improve the workability, manageability, and strength of concrete made with calcined clays.
