SageGlass, dynamic on the court
With the renovation of a sports center called"The Glass house", SageGlass has created the largest dynamic glass installation in higher education in the United States. A move in favor of sports and sustainability.
More than 20,000 students attend Middle Tennessee State University each year, located just outside of Nashville, the capital of Tennessee (United States). At the heart of their campus, The Murphy Center arena, fully glazed, serves as the home of their men’s and women’s basketball program, who nicknamed itiThe Glass House". This name hides however a partial reality. The arena was often too bright, too hot, and the sun's reflections impacted the basketball games. This building inaugurated in 1972 was simply no longer meeting contemporary needs: it was time to bring it into the 21st century.
And that's just what SageGlass has done by installing around 3,000 square meters of dynamic glazing, the equivalent of seven times the area of the basketball court. The electrochromic glazing has been supplied by the Saint-Gobain Group brand, which operates the largest smart glass manufacturing facility in the world on U.S. soil. Thanks to this total renovation of the Murphy Center's facades, the University was able to abandon curtains and automatic blinds: smart windows tint automatically in response to the sun, adjusting light and heat transmitted through the glazing.
In addition to being a significant step forward in terms of user comfort, the SageGlass solution helps the University meet its environmental objectives, by reducing the need for air conditioning and heating.
