Take-off for renovation

With reinforced thermal insulation, high-performance acoustic systems and façades that optimize natural light, the renovation of Tulcea airport in Romania benefited from all Saint-Gobain’s expertise.

Located in eastern Romania, Tulcea Danube Delta Airport is a strategic gateway to this tourist region. Faced with increasing traffic and new air transport requirements, the passenger terminal had to be enlarged and modernized to improve capacity and optimize the passenger experience.

For Saint-Gobain, the challenge was to reconcile these operational requirements with user comfort and building performance.

 A full range of solutions

The transformation is immediately visible: the new curtain façade in Aquaroc® (lightweight, moisture-resistant cement board) incorporating COOL-LITE® SKN 176 II glazing, processed at Saint-Gobain Prime Glass, bathes the indoor areas in natural light, while providing solar protection and enhanced thermal insulation.

The outside of the building benefits from Isover PROFI FASSADE and THERMO ISOVER outdoor thermal insulation systems, reinforced with glass wool in the wall cavity. The interior solutions focus on acoustic comfort. RigiPROFIL framed indoor partitions, up to 6 m high, incorporate Rigips plasterboard and Isover Akusto glass wool. As a result, noise levels are effectively reduced.

For the ceiling, 3,000 m² of Casoprano Rigips solutions and Ecophon acoustic systems contribute to both sound absorption and visual comfort.

An exemplary building site

The solutions deployed in Romania also had to be responsible, with materials stored on reconditioned pallets and on-site technical training provided to optimize implementation and reduce the environmental impact. The Tulcea terminal demonstrates that operational efficiency and sustainable practices can go hand in hand on a large-scale building site.
