The 16th Saint-Gobain “Multi Comfort Student Contest” is going digital.

This international competition created by Saint-Gobain, will concern the city of Saint-Denis in the Paris region. Based on Saint-Gobain’s Multi-Comfort concept, the competition is enjoying even greater success involving 210 universities and 38 participant countries this year. The winning team will be announced on 11 June during a major live event online.

Each year, the Multi Comfort Student Contest invites architecture and engineering students to undertake a development project while respecting the vision for an innovative living space that complies with the most demanding regulations.

It is in this spirit that the 2020-2021 contest has engaged students’ creativity to convert the Coignet post-industrial site in Saint-Denis (France) into a green area for living, learning and leisure, respecting both the outline of the historical heritage and the needs for sustainable development of modern neighborhoods. The challenge was to develop a space composed of residential buildings (250 apartments), a primary school with 18 classrooms and a park.

The jury for this international competition, made up of leading figures from the world of architecture, representatives of the Seine-Saint-Denis department and members of Saint-Gobain, will vote for the project that best meets the goals of the Multi-Comfort concept: sustainable design and optimized energy efficiency for thermal, acoustic and visual comfort and indoor air quality.

This year, in view of the international health crisis, the competition format has been entirely digital. Since 19 April, the videos of the 53 winning projects have been presented on this dedicated page so that the jury, as well as the 112 students still in the running, supervised by some fifty teachers, can assess them.

The winning team will be chosen from the teams selected during the national stage from over 2,800 registered participants and will be announced at the International Grand Final on Friday, June 11, 2021, during a major live digital event in the presence of Pierre-André de Chalendar, the Group's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, and Benoit Bazin, Chief Operating Officer. Follow the final at 2:00 PM (GMT + 02:00) live on the competition Facebook page.
