Nestlé’s clear vision with SageGlass

In Vevey (Switzerland), Nestlé is renovating its head office to make it a benchmark in energy efficiency. Saint-Gobain is playing its part, with SageGlass electrochromic glass.

Nestlé is the world’s largest agri-food group. Its head office, on the shores of Lake Geneva, in Vevey (Switzerland) has undergone a large-scale renovation project – enough to give it a face-lift, but without altering the architecture of the site, which is listed as a “cultural property of national importance”. The challenge for Nestlé was both to adapt its site to new ways of working, to preserve its architecture and reduce its energy consumption.

Saint-Gobain was assigned the façade, thanks to its hi-tech SageGlass glazing solutions. These smart windows, which become more or less tinted depending on the level of sunlight, replace the former solution combining glazing with interior blinds. Now, 4,400 sq. m of dynamic Sageglass LightZone® Climatop Classic Bright Silver glazing offers optimum solar and thermal protection.

The glazing has three distinct zones to precisely adapt the amount of light transmitted. The tint of the glazing is adjusted automatically in this building by a central unit that takes into account various meteorological parameters, as well as occupancy periods, the surrounding landscape and the function of spaces. Not only does this optimize the building’s energy consumption and modernize the facade, but it also improves the lives of head office employees!
