Philanthropy in action

Saint-Gobain takes stock of its philanthropic activities in 2023: financial support, donations of materials, volunteering, and the unwavering commitment of its employees in the face of tragic events. Here is an overview of the Group’s supportive and inspiring initiatives.

La philanthropie en action

Group charitable initiatives are partly guided by the BUILD Change policy, which encourages action in two particularly meaningful areas:

  • Access to decent, sustainable housing;
  • Vocational training of young people in the construction sector.

By applying these guidelines, Saint-Gobain has made a strong commitment to local communities, notably through its philanthropy and sponsorship (whether direct financial support or donations of materials). Here are a few examples.

In Brazil, the “Reforma” project trains vulnerable women in the light and sustainable construction trades.

In India, the “Learn while earn” program, launched in 2011, gives people from disadvantaged rural backgrounds access to apprenticeships in modern manufacturing practices. In 2024, this program is being extended to include more women.

In Canada, a partnership has been developed with Habitat for Humanity to improve access to healthy, decent and affordable housing for indigenous families across the country.

In Italy, building materials were donated to the “ETNOS Cooperativa” association for the renovation of a farmhouse that will be transformed into a workplace, restaurant, and hotel for autistic people.

Elsewhere, 2023 was also sadly marked by tragic events, in particular two deadly earthquakes in Turkey and Morocco. The “Hope for Türkiye” program was thus deployed to rehouse people who had lost their homes. In Morocco, action was taken by the local teams to rehouse the people of the town of Ouirgane, a project supported by the Saint-Gobain Foundation. The United States and Canada have also launched the “Hope for Maui” campaign, following the fires that ravaged Hawaii.

The Group’s commitment to local communities doesn’t stop there. Other projects have been launched in the fields of education, research, culture, and healthcare, with support options tailored to the local needs of each entity and each country.

Thanks to all our teams for their commitment in 2023!
